Lo strumento su cui ho eseguito questa e altre modifiche è un “Jazzbass“ di costruzione  giapponese. Il basso aveva una sottile striscia in ottone con la funzione di collegamento di massa dal pickup al ponte, solitamente questo collegamento è fatto con un filo elettrico che da sotto il ponte va al vano del circuito attraverso un foro praticato nel legno del corpo dello strumento. In pratica si tratta di praticare un foro con la giusta angolazione attraverso il corpo di una decina di centimetri. Dopo aver calcolato l’angolazione, ho forato un piccolo blocco di legno ricavandone una dima che utilizzata  come guida per la punta del trapano, permette di effettuare il foro con la giusta inclinazione, prima di forare lo strumento ho provato su un pezzo di legno qualsiasi per controllare che il tutto sia come previsto.

Mass  bridge modifications

The instrument on which I have performed these modifications is a  Japanese construction “jazzbass”. The bass had a thin strip of brass with the function of ground connection from the bridge to the pickup; usually this connection is made with an electric wire that goes from under the bridge to the compartment of the circuit through a hole in the wood of the instrument’s body.In practice, the job consists in drilling a few inches hole with the correct angle through the body of the instrument. After calculating the angle, I drilled a small block of wood and I obtained a template that, if used as a guide for the drill bit, allows you to make the hole with the correct angle. I would specify that before drilling the instrument I’ve done some tests on a piece of wood to check that everything is as expected.
